Join us for three Saturdays in February: 3rd, 10th, and 17th; for the Shepherding Our Flock Workshop Series taking place in the Luther Building.

This LCMS program seeks to answer the question – How can our church minister to members who have become less active in our church? It will provide us with practical processes and useful tools to reach out to inactive members with care and attention.

Church attendance was affected adversely by Covid-19, and has been a challenge for churches all across our nation. But fortunately, LCMS has developed valuable resources that can help us address this issue at First Lutheran Church. There is no cost to participate, and the three sessions will take place from 11 a.m. until 2:30 p.m., with lunch provided.

Join us Saturday, October 21st for the Celebrate Your Gifts Workshop in the Luther Building and hosted by the Board of Evangelism. There will be an informal lunch at 12:30 p.m., the workshop will start at 1 p.m. and adjourn no later than 3 p.m.

God has equipped each of us with gifts, talents, and abilities, and set forth work for us to do. And yet only:                        

• 54% of practicing Christians know their gifts, and only
• 27% are actively using those gifts to perform the work He has set before us, for the joy of the Lord.

Using resources from Lutheran Hour Ministries based on research done with the Barna Group, we will explore how to discover and use our gifts to carry out the work He has set before us.

The increasing cost of food and need for healthy meals is becoming a huge issue for many people at this time. So we are delighted to announce that a workshop on this topic is set for Wednesday, September 6, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Luther Building at First Lutheran Church, 8^th and Rock Street in Little Rock.

Our guest presenter is Ms. Laura Anne Warren, a Family and Consumer Science Agent from the Pulaski County Extension Office with expertise in the areas of nutrition, cooking and gardening. She  will be providing a cooking demonstration as well as key insights on how to create healthy, low-cost meals and reduce food costs, an important issue that emerged in our recent survey of the congregation.

When Christ came to live among us, he fed and healed people’s bodies, he cast out demons, he taught, and he had SPIRITUAL CONVERSATIONS.

We are delighted to announce that a series of three workshops will be held on Spiritual Conversations on June 7, 14, and 21, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The workshops draw on research from the Barna Group that people talk less about spiritual matters than they used to, but we all can become more intentional in our outreach and actually enjoy sharing Jesus with others when we do. This is a terrific opportunity to learn vital insights to help us carry out the Great Commission, so you won’t want to miss it. The public is invited, there is no cost.

One of the greatest challenges facing individuals and families today is not only how to make ends meet in a time of rising costs and high inflation, but how to plan for and leave a legacy that will live on into the future. First Lutheran Church in Little Rock is delighted to announce that this issue will be addressed at a seminar on Saturday, June 24, 2023.

“There are several financial instruments that benefit individuals and families as well as churches and other charities,” states Michael Videll, Financial Advisor with Thrivent Financial and a featured speaker at the seminar.

“But we are unlikely to take advantage of them if we don’t know about them.” The seminar will address tax-advantaged ways to donate to charities, charitable remainder trusts,
donor-advised life insurance policies, and donor-advised funds.

In addition, Bethany A. Pike, an attorney with The Elrod Firm – Estate Planning and Elder Law, will speak about wills, estates, irrevocable living trusts, powers of attorney, and related legal issues that are pertinent to leaving a legacy. Finally, First Lutheran Pastor Ron Bacic will speak on how leaving a legacy starts with becoming a good steward.

The Lutheran Laymen’s League (LLL) through Lutheran Hour Ministries (LHM) is hosting a virtual event on Saturday, March 5th from 11am – 1pm. The theme is Better Together: Discovering the Gifts in Your Neighborhood.

The event will include:

• An opening devotion led by Rev. Dr. Michael Zeigler, Speaker of The Lutheran Hour.
• A training session hosted by Jennifer Prophete, Director of Community Engagement for LHM, and Sara Johnson, The Hopeful Neighborhood Project Coach.
• Live Q&A session with Jennifer and Sara

The Board of Evangelism will host a watch party in the Luther Building for the event and lunch will be provided. Alternatively, you can register directly with LLL to participate individually.
